[TMU-JIRB] Addition of "Radiation Protection Committee" and "Biosafety Committee" Department Options in the TMU-eJIRB Research Site Approval Applicati
In line with ongoing improvements to the research site approval process at affiliated hospitals within the TMU system, the TMU-eJIRB system has been enhanced by adding "Radiation Protection Committee" and "Biosafety Committee" department options to the "Research Site Approval Application" function. This feature is now officially live.
This update incorporates the existing hospital-level review workflow into the TMU-eJIRB system for centralized management. It does not introduce any new review procedures, nor does it affect existing review workflows or timelines. Research teams are still required to complete reviews by the Radiation Protection Committee and/or the Biosafety Committee in accordance with each hospital's regulations. When submitting a Research Site Approval Application through the TMU-eJIRB system, applicants should upload the relevant review approval documentation to facilitate the subsequent sign-off process.
Function Description
For human research projects conducted at any of the TMU's three affiliated hospitals (Taipei Medical University Hospital, Wan-Fang Hospital, and Shuang-Ho Hospital) that involve increased radiation exposure to research participants or the handling of infectious biological materials, review by the "Radiation Protection Committee" or the "Biosafety Committee" is required.
When completing the Research Site Approval Application, applicants should select the corresponding department(s) and upload the relevant documentation to facilitate the subsequent sign-off process.
Important Reminders
Parallel Processing: Reviews by the "Radiation Protection Committee" and the "Biosafety Committee" is, in principle, conducted in parallel with the IRB review. Applicants are encouraged to submit applications to these committees while the IRB review is underway to shorten the overall processing time for research site approval.
Existing Procedures Remain: This system feature does not replace the existing application procedures required by each hospital. Research teams must still complete the required reviews per hospital' regulations and upload the approval documents during the Research Site Approval Application.
Hospital Policy Updates: Should any hospital update its operating procedures in the future, please follow the latest announcements issued by the respective hospitals.
